This project started in March 2025. After turning thirty-five, feeling strong enough after a car accident that has left me disabled and the growing anti-queer sentiment, I decided to pick up my camera and try my hand once again at portrait photography.
The project aims to capture queer men and non-binary folks practicing various kinks and fetishes, the devious parts of their sexual expression. For many years there has been a narrative that family-friendly, TV-ready homosexuals are just like their straight counterparts. But I want to rebel against that narrative. I do want to participate in a homogenous culture that perpetuates some of the worst ills of humanity.
Each of these photosets includes a short essay about the experience with my model.
So, I am here to capture queers in defiance of that narrative.
My work and style has been inspired by the photographer Bob Mizer, most famous for his work in Physique Pictorial during a time when gay pornography was illegal. The time when this project started, there has been increasing discussion on censorship in the United States. I fear that we may one day roll back to the time of Mizer, but that is also why I feel compelled to continue this project. However, I aim to take photos of the people who reflect the community around me which means different races, sizes and ages.
